“A coworker was historically cagey about their age, and didn’t seem to be either young or old in appearance. They had recently graduated from a master’s program which could mean anything. Nobody thought about it much at all. The managers though eventually determined that this person was middle aged. They pulled the team other than this member into a room and closed the door, and said they had reevaluated this person’s resume and job, because quote ‘[they] should be more proficient at that age.’ Complete breach of protected class laws and ridiculous in today’s tech climate where anyone can learn anything. We reported it to HR with the victims permission, and they luckily successfully got the teammate transferred off the toxic team, and into a much better position than one in which they were being discriminated against, and demoted the manager. Don't stand for discrimination! Whether against you or when you see it! Your voice matters.”
