#106 “...it's too ‘he said, she said.’”

“My team took our new colleague out to dinner on his first day. Later in the evening, he announces to everyone that he ‘just doesn't think women are as skilled at technical matters as men are’, and feels weird about saying this because his sister is trying to get her degree and he just wishes she wouldn't exert herself so much. I was the only woman at the table, every other man went quiet, some turned to look at me. I said something in response, didn't think to take it further. A few months later, I realise this should really be reported HR, ask a senior manager about reporting incidents after some time has passed. His response - we don't want to get into this this late, it's too ‘he said, she said’.”
