#2 “I would speak, my coworker would repeat.”
"About a year into my career, I was leading a project that required regular remote conference calls with another team in Amazon. It quickly became apparent that my voice did not matter on the call, even though I was the expert from my team on the project. When I invited my colleague, a white man, to the conference calls, he would repeat everything I said, the other team would listen, and we were able to make progress. I was disappointed that this became the mechanism we had to use to move the project forward: I would speak, my coworker would repeat."
