“My friend joined the Natural Language Processing team but as soon as she joined, she and another woman on the team were put in a sub-team known as data cleaning. This team was just doing excel work which is not what she was originally hired for. She tried to talk to her manager about it and he came off as very rude saying, ‘to be content with the work that she is being given’. She hated working there since she was not being heard or taken seriously. However, when the other women left the team, the higher ups started giving her some attention but she is still not comfortable sharing her ideas with her co-workers. It sucks that even at this point of time she has to be content with what she is given and not ask for something else.“
