“This Is a story of my friend who is in her 50s and have been in her job for almost 30 years. I want to mention her story because I see a pattern that when men talk a lot about his family at work, it’s a plus because people see him as both a good engineer and a good family man; when women talk a lot about her family at work, people especially men treat her as less professional. My friend in the story holds PE(professional Engineer) and is now a PM. She cares about people a lot, so for workshops and major testing events she handles a lot of logistics and schedules to make sure people are cozy. She loves to talk about her family at conversations. Men cut her off during technical conversations or completely dismissed her questions or concerns as if she had no qualifications as Engineer ( but she has). And I work with those men as well and they are really good guys and normally respect women a lot. I think it makes the pattern even more interesting because I believe it’s unconscious bias that they may not even realize.“
