#15 “…he told me that he thought my previous manager made a mistake and shouldn't have promoted me.”

“My previous manager promoted me, with the justification that I was acting in a new role with expanded scope and responsibilities, and that my level should reflect that. She noted, ‘we are so lucky to have you leading this new product and area’ for the company.

A few months later, due to a reorg, I got a new manager. In one of our first one-on-one's, he told me that he thought my previous manager made a mistake and shouldn't have promoted me.

Does this have anything to do with my gender? It's hard to know for sure. But I have a real hard time imagining him saying the same thing to my male peers.”
