“As an Indian American, I sometimes face really odd instances of casual racism: white people commenting on how difficult it to understand ‘fobby indians’ or how they dress and smell weird. One time, a senior manager also started making fun of the Indian head nod by saying ‘Oh wait! Let me guess how you will respond to this’ and started shaking his head in a very outdated Indian style and stereotypical head nod. I can tell that it's not meant to be mean in any way but it's still an odd reminder that no matter how I sound (American) or how I look (Indianish), I will never be accepted for myself.”
